NUFound21 is a survivor-led nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting youth impacted by violence, abuse, exploitation, foster care involvement, juvenile justice involvement, and other forms of trauma.

Our signature program, Threads of Strength, uses fashion, creativity, mentorship, and self-expression to help young people discover their strengths, build confidence, and create a vision for their future.

For many youth, trauma steals their voice.

Through Threads of Strength, we help them reclaim it.

As a survivor of childhood trauma, abuse, and foster care involvement, fashion became more than clothing. It became confidence. Creativity. Identity. Healing.

Fashion helped me find my voice when I felt invisible.

Today, NUFound21 is creating that same opportunity for youth who deserve to know they are more than what happened to them.

Phase One: Identification & Prevention

Youth participate in healing-centered prevention education that helps them identify strengths, boundaries, vulnerabilities, healthy relationships, and personal goals.

Participants explore sewing, fashion design, art, and creative expression as tools for confidence, healing, and empowerment.

Youth showcase their growth, creativity, and accomplishments while celebrating their journey toward healing and self-discovery. Each participant is paired with a Survivor/Visionary Leader Mentor—an adult who has overcome adversity and now helps guide young people toward hope, confidence, and success.

Our documentary, Fashioning Charel, demonstrates how creativity and fashion can become pathways to healing.

Feedback from youth and young adults who viewed the documentary found:

• 92.3% learned ways to cope with trauma

• 84.6% would recommend the documentary to a friend

• 92.3% reported having a trusted adult in their life

• 100% wanted additional healing resources

• 30.8% shared that the documentary brought up experiences they had never spoken about before

These outcomes remind us that healing begins when people feel seen, heard, and understood.
